Hanging with a Nobel Prize Winner

Yesterday, I got to spend the whole day with Sir Harry Kroto, the winner of the 1996 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. He was instrumental in the discovery of buckminster fullerenes (C60) and is an all around cool guy. He has put tons of neat stuff on his website (Vega Site) including videos of Richard Feynman and lectures on nanotechnology. His lecture was pretty interesting, as well. It included lots of science jokes and was fairly inspirational without being dumbed down. (FYI. If you saw the talk you'd wish you were from Mississippi so you could lead the effort to oust Trent Lott from office!) Overall, the best part of the day was hearing him describe the discovery of C60, the experiment and the excitement of it all. Very Cool! :)

Here's a photo of us together:

That is very cool! My husband loves all the Feynman lectures (we have a whole series of books) and the nobel prize part is cool too. My grandfather (and my great uncle) each won nobel prizes in physics. But I never got to meet them :(
